OGG Fall Kick-Off Event

The Ottawa Geotechnical Group is kicking off a fresh new year of events. If you you haven’t heard about them yet, OGG is a group for geotechnical engineers and geo-scientist in the Ottawa area. Last year they had monthly speakers at a nearby community center and provided a discounted price to students for an excellent lunch and opportunity to network. Their kick-off is taking place this Wednesday and best of all it is FREE! (but make sure to RSVP). If you want to learn more about them go to: www.ottawageotechnicalgroup.com

The guide will be Ms. Beth Halfkenny of Carleton University and Dr. George Dix, sedimentology professor and resident local geology expert. The visit will discuss geological principles, sedimentary structures and past environments.  It is a great spot for basic geology as the cross section afforded by the fault allows a multi-dimensional view not seen elsewhere close by the University.

Since Riverside Drive is currently under construction, it is recommend to use Prince of Wales or Bronson to get to Hog’s Back.

  • What: OGG Fall Kick-off Event
  • Event Title: Hog’s Back Rock Geology, with a geologist from Carleton University
  • Location: Pavilion near the parking lot, just north of the falls
  • Date: Wednesday, September 22, 2010 (rain or shine)
  • Time: 17:45 Greetings at the Pavilion (NCC Gazebo near the parking lot), 18:00 Guided Tour, 19:00 Refreshments
  • Admission: Free
  • RSVP: Michel Timmons (OGGtreasurer@hotmail.com) before Noon, Sept. 21 2010
