AWMA’s Environmental Challenge International

The Environmental Challenge International Competition held by the AWMA is a chance for a team of students from a variety of levels and disciplines to work together to solve a broad, complex, and real-life environmental problem. These are not typical design problems but rather encompass environmental and social issues requiring multi-disciplinary and creative solutions. For more information please see the AWMA website: http://www.awma.org/ACE2010/index_small.php?pg=environmental

SEEDS Ottawa with the support of the AWMA is hoping to send a team to the 2010 Environmental Challenge International Contest in Calgary. The first step if you wish to participate is to attend a weekend – long workshop which will be held May 15th and 16th, 2010. During the workshop, you will have the opportunity to meet with people from other departments, receive some guidance on how to write a proposal, and learn about the problem for this year’s contest. You will work to write a 3 page proposal with your group. The team with the best proposal from this workshop will go to the conference to participate in the competition.

If you have any questions, or to RSVP, please contact Audrey Murray at amurray3@connect.carleton.ca. You can also RSVP by clicking here. Best of luck!!

AWMA Student Membership Deal

The Ottawa Valley chapter of Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA-OV) in coordination with SEEDS would like to establishing a local AWMA student chapter at Carleton, Ottawa U, and Algonquin.  To do this it is offering you a discounted student membership of $10 (reduced from $45)!

AWMA is a widely known organization in North America with extensive resources for students and professionals. The local chapter is very active in organizing seminars, workshops, and specialty events. The membership fees alone would pay for the networking opportunities you would receive. But don’t take my word for it, check out their website at www.awma.org.

Membership application forms can be downloaded at http://www.awma.org/files_original/AWMAAPP.pdf . Forms and membership fees ($10 in cash or cheque) can be handed to SEEDS executives (NB: Please disregard membership fees mentioned in the application form; you should only pay $10).
